A Sea of Change: Understanding What Sustainable Seafood Means Today

Sustainable seafood is a term that is frequently used in the culinary and retail space. Yet, for most people, there is no clear definition or framework as to what “sustainable” means, making it hard for RDNs to effectively offer guidance. During this webinar, ecology and sustainability expert Tim Fitzgerald of the Environmental Defense Fund will provide an overview of sustainable seafood and tips on how to make recommendations, including: country of origin, certifications for wild fisheries and farmed fish, and questions to ask the fishmonger. He will also cover best practices and progress made by major retailers and foodservice on putting in place sustainable seafood policies. After, Barbara Ruhs, RDN, will provide an update on the latest nutrition science for overall health benefits of eating seafood as well as tips on how to talk about sustainable seafood with your clients.
